Got it to the armhole steek last night :

1/26/2008

According to the instructions, I’m supposed to knit 9 repeats starting with stitch #1. Doing that, I will get this :

Back ..... ½ repeat (st 19-36) II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II 1 repeat

Front .... ½ repeat ( st 1-18) II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II 1 repeat

With some motifs, that might be OK, but with Rambling Rose, it would mean you'll have :

half a downward facing bloom and then a full upward facing bloom on your left side and on your right, you'll have a half an upward facing bloom and then a full upward facing bloom. This is for the front.

Added much later :

To me, that looks a bit cockeyed. The motif is asymmetrical and nothing I do, short of messing around with the motif, will make the garment more symmetrical. And the neckline? But I can change the placement of the pattern to make it more pleasing to the eye :

back(R->L).. ¼ rep (st 28-36) II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II ¼ rep (st 1-9)

front (R<-L) .... ¾ rep (1-27) II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II 1 repeat II ¾ rep (10-36)

The front will now begin and end with a full upward facing bloom ...

Beginning the rounds on stitch #10, I get most of an upwards facing bloom on both the right and left. The front neckline now falls between two upward facing blooms.

Shoulder joint? Rows 1, 28, 29 & 46 will give you matching shoulders.

Hmm!

What's up Jamieson? Did you find an underweight ball and decide that the easiest way to deal with it was to stuff a bit more yarn in the middle?

Guess I should be grateful that you didn't cheat me this time, eh?

Stash Knit Down 2008

As the name suggests ... end 2008 with less yarn than when you started the year.

There will be "planned" purchases :

- Jamieson's Shetland Heather for two sweaters IF those colours ever go on sale.

- Jamieson's Aran for a couple of those patterns that are knitted with 5.00mm needles ... Columbia, Malin, Rockall, Golden Gate, Port Arena, etc.

- enough Spindrift to complete these designs.

- belated and/or early Mother's Day, birthday and Christmas presents from here, if the USD strengthens. Hmmm, USD1.90? USD1.80 to the £? A girl can dream ;-)

- yarn to complete a W.I.P.

How am I going to record all this?

Let's keep things simple. Since I only knit sweaters, let's calculate it in terms of a sweater.

If I buy 18 to 22 balls of Heather Aran or 9 to 12 skeins of Jamieson's Aran, it is one sweater.

If I use only 14 skeins of Scottish Heather to make Dalriada or 22 balls of Heather Aran to make Cecily of York, it is also one sweater.

For Jamieson's Spindrift and J&S's jumperweight, when buying for a "new" project, 30 balls is equal to one sweater.
